Do You Have the Luck to be a Great Poker Player?
July 3rd, 2009
This is one of the most asked questions in the Poker arena and when that is not answered but rather ignored. People cannot really answer this question because there is real answer, it's a bit like asking how was the universe created and what came first the chicken or the egg. But let's have a brief look at unravelling some of the answers and seeing what the game is all about, is it just skill or luck?
Luck
Lets first have a look at why you have to be lucky to play poker, because you do not have judgement over how the cards are in fact dealt, you have to be lucky to be dealt the best possible hand, by getting a bad hand time after time you will never get any where in a game, unless of course you have the nerve and skill.
Skill
Skill also plays a major part in the game of poker, as we mentioned above you have to know when you have been dealt a bad hand and no when to give up, if you constantly play with band hands then you are likely to lose a lot of money, you have to judge the players around you and a good poker play will be able to tell whether or not they can progress with the game. You also have to know how and when to call a good bluff.
I genuinley believe that the game itself is about both of the elements. But over time I feel skill creeps in alot more. For example if a beginner poker player played ten games against some one that has that little bit more skill then them they would probably end up winning 1 or 2 but the advanced player would come out a lot more successful.
