there is no set …
there is no set amount of players who can play.
in different types of poker games, different amounts of players are usually used.
In a tournament or single table game, anywhere between 5-10 players can play at a table. It can come down to personal choice
In tournaments I have run, with 70-80 players, I usually start with 8 players on each table.
ensuring the number of players isnt too large can lead to greater poker play so i recommend 6-8 players on a table.
