Poker Stars opened for play money beta testing September 12th 2001 and began offering real money games in December 2001. Poker Stars is the second largest online poker site. It hosts many multi-table tournaments, which has rocketed its popularity among online poker players. The competition used to be considered fairly stiff at Poker Stars, but it is now about average among all the online poker sites.

With the new US gambling legislation from Oct, 2006, Poker Stars took the market lead in online poker tournaments as well as online ring games. This poker room has a very extensive program of both scheduled tournaments and sit-and-gos.

I play there regularily and know all about them.Because of this fact Poker Stars tends to attract people who know how to play poker. You will get less fish and a better all round game with less of the bullcrap you get from a lot of sites. Like newbies throwing all their money in on crap hands and sucking out on you. If you play good you get respect and are allowed to lean on other players as and when you need to.

Promotions and Bonus Information

Poker Stars spreads large numbers of well-filled satellites to most of the big tournaments. Most of all, of course, you’ll always find plenty of satellites to the WSOP. Several years in a row, Poker Stars has “delivered” around a third of all entrants in the WSOP Main Event. This is truly the home of online poker tournaments. There are a lot of freerolls at Poker Stars, but rarely with any significant value. They are very good exercise, though.

Poker Traffic

You’re looking at the world’s most trafficked poker network in the world. On special occasions there are up to 30,000 simultaneous connections, although the numbers usually jump down to 26,000. Approximately 80% of the real money players play at tournaments but ring games are picking up pace as well. This number brings brings Poker Stars to an unarguable position as a tournament leader.

Tournaments

Any day of the week you will find a great poker tourney going on at PokerStars. Look for the multiple tables, the shootouts, the satellites, the free rolls (which are wildly popular), the sit and go events, the reloads and the deep stacks, the 6-max, and the turbo events too. Believe us when we say - they have it all.

Software

Online Poker software. Their software receives our top rating and provides various useful features such as a multi-table tournament lobby with excellent tournament information and a “Time Bank” that gives you extra time to make decisions when you need to, but which is limited in order to keep players from playing too slow. Note that for all tournaments and multi-table satellites, all players are assigned random seats to start the tournament in order to prevent collusion.

For those that like to play at multiple tables you will be pleased to hear that the tables can be resized so you can view more than one at the same time and the software will automatically switch you the table that requires action. That’s of course unless you don’t want to in which case you can deselect it in the options menu.

Poker Stars is proud to have a conscientious and dedicated service team 24/7. The support team is ready to answer your e-mails 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply e-mail and you will receive a prompt respond. More Poker stars review click here.
